THE DANCING UMBRELLA

written by Shirley Higginson and Connie Kaldor

"Mister Piano Man, please?... ooh, we have a little drums... and how 'bout a little bass and guitar?"

As I walked down the street

The oddest thing that I did meet

Extraordinary, but really true

A dancing umbrella striped red and blue

Tap tap, tap tap tap

It went tap tap, tap tap tap

One, two, three, it tapped away

Tap, tap, tap, it went that day

And then it stopped and asked, "by chance

Would you care to join this dance?"

Yes, yes, yes, I said, "okay"

And we were up, up, up and away

We scaled the trees and we went so high

It's hard to tap dance in the sky

We had to clap clap clap, clap clap clap

Clap clap clap, clap clap clap

I want to drop down to the street!

I want to try my feet!

Tap tap, tap tap tap

Tap tap tap, tap tap tap

The umbrella danced -- what a sight!

It tap-tap-tapped with all it's might

And then it said, "I'll take my cane

And tap indoors 'cause it's starting to rain"

"Oh no you don't, umbrella, you got to stay outside in the rain!  C'mon..."

Splash splash splash, splash splash

Splash splash splash, splash splash...

"See that puddle over there?  I'm gonna get my rubbers.  I'm getting all wet..."
