PLAY ME SOMETHING SENTIMENTAL

"Hey, lady!"

"Yeah?"

"Uh, are you the singer here?"

"Whaddya think I'm doing up here old man?  C'mon, whaddya want?"

"I -- I was just kinda wondering if you..."

"C'mon, I haven't got all night.  Whaddya want?"

"I -- I was just wondering if you could..."

Play me something sentimental

You know it's been a long time

Since I've heard something soft and gentle

About true hearts loving 'til the end of time

Doesn't anybody hope anymore?

Doesn't anyone elope anymore?

Aren't there any Valentinos around

Whose heart breaks at the sound

Of that old familiar refrain:

"There'll never be a love like her again"

"...so please, lady..."

Play me something sentimental

You know it's been a long time

Since I've heard something soft and gentle

About true hearts loving 'til the end of time

Everyone is in to therapy these days

Holding Freud and Jung hysterically these days

Whatever happened to the walk hand-in-hand

By the sea and the sand

Writing poems to one of his smiles

I haven't heard a poem like that in such a long long while

"...so please, lady..."

Play me something sentimental

You know it's been a long time

Since I've heard something soft and gentle

About true hearts loving 'til the end of time

Everyone is cold, you know

"Our-relationship-is-very-free-and-open!" I'm told, you know

Whatever happened to the nights of romance

Waiting for her glance

Dying if she looked and she frowned

A kiss was bliss, your heart would break when your love wasn't found

"...so please, lady..."

Play me something sentimental

You know it's been a long time

Since I've heard something soft and gentle

About true hearts loving 'til the end of time

You know they make me sad, those memories

You know they aren't all bad, those memories
